Welcome to Home Business How To Start dot Com!

Hi There,

I am Edmund Yeo. Welcome to Home Business How To Start dot Com! The one-stop place for starting your home business advice.

Before I proceed, I would like to show you an overview of business trends and why you should start a home business instead of a traditional business.

Business Trends

1950s: Consumer

1960s: Industrial

1970s: Non-Profit

1980s: Service & Marketing

1990s: Direct Selling

2000s: E-Commerce

Here are some facts and figures:

Online revenue in 1997 was $1.3 billion while projected online revenue in 2014 is $248 billion.

53% of the small businesses in the U.S are home-based.

Home-based businesses are a $425 billion industry.

98% of the people surveyed report that they are happier working from home.

So what does all this mean for you?

Wouldn’t it be nice to make use of this trend to build something for yourself?

Why Home Businesses compared to Traditional Businesses?

Factors  Traditional Business Home Business
Risk and Competition You will be competing against a lot of well established market players which have more financial power to weather ups and downs in the economy. There is virtually unlimited opportunities on the internet to start your e-commerce business.
Capital To start a traditional business, you will need a lot of capital. It may be out of reach to common folks like us. You just need a website and a hosting account to get started. You can start your very own business for just under US$20.
Manpower You will need to hire manpower to run your traditional business. There are no employees required unless you are planning to build an empire.
Time If you start a traditional business, you will have to be physically there for maybe 10 to 12 hours everyday to supervise your employees.  Your websites can run 24/7 without your physical presence. You do not need to spend so much time compared to a traditional business.

Types of Home Business Models

1. Affiliate Marketing

2. Wholesale Retail Distribution

What are my recommendations?

I would suggest going for affiliate marketing for a start. Why? First of all, you do not need to invest money to create or research your product. You can promote other people’s products and start making commission from sales. Secondly, it is very easy to get started and there is little risk involved compared to other business models. Finally, you need very little capital, probably a few days of your pocket money to get started. :)

If you have decided to go for affiliate marketing, I recommend giving Rapid Profit Formula by Matt Carter a test drive. I have personally tried the course and achieved reasonable success from it. You can read more about the course here.

If you are dead broke and would still like to give affiliate marketing a try, here’s what you can do without putting any money on the table:

1. Go to Clickbank, select the niche that you are most passionate about. Choose a product that is selling well based on the gravity value.

2. Write a Review on the product

3. Go to any web 2.0 properties such as Squidoo to sign up for an account.

4. Follow the step-by-step instructions to set up your own website.

5. Post the Review on the website and start driving visitors to it.

And you are done! :) However, there is obviously more to it.

I have written some great posts on the various topics that I have mentioned here. So feel free to check them out.

Have you seen the Recommended Resources page? Everything that I recommend leaves here.

Thanks for stopping by.

Edmund
