The Beginner’s Guide to Creating a High Converting Squeeze Page by Edmund Yeo
Having a high converting squeeze page is one of the key factors to list building success. For people who are new to the internet marketing scene, a squeeze page is a single-page website whose sole purpose is to persuade your visitor to join your mailing list.
A good squeeze page is simple in design and certainly does not require complicated graphics. Hence, I believe everyone should be able to create one even if you are technically challenged. How do you like the feeling of waking up early in the morning to check your email and it says “You have a new subscriber!” Sounds good? Check out the 5 components that I am about to unveil.
A high converting squeeze page has 5 core components:
1. Headline
2. Video
3. Benefits of the Offer
4. Opt-In Form
5. Layout
Don’t worry if you are clueless about the 5 components because I am going to explain in detail about what you should do for each component. Ready? =)
Component 1: Headline
The headline is the most important component of a squeeze page as it summarizes what you are offering to your visitor. You should consider using Tahoma, Impact or Verdana font types to make your headline more eye-catching to capture your visitors’ attention. Trust me, do not use other font types because the font types I recommend have been proven to convert very well compared to others. To arouse your visitors’ curiosity and delivery impact, try using dark red font color for most parts of the headline. You can complement it with black words and yellow highlights to make the “benefit words” more obvious.
To write a good headline, you should introduce a character, imply a certain benefit and desired results. “Find out how a 22 year-old school dropout quadrupled his subscriber list by following this proven system in 48 hours or less!” will certainly attract internet marketers who are desperately trying to multiply their subscriber list in the shortest time possible.
Component 2: Video
Videos are fast becoming an essential marketing tool in the new era of internet marketing. They may sound difficult to create but they are not. Personally, I only possess basic video editing skills which are sufficient enough for me to churn out videos that are able to convert pretty well for me in terms of subscribers and sales. Therefore, you should not feel intimidated by the word “video”. In order to be successful, you must overcome your fears and take action.
There are 2 types of video you can create:
* On-Screen
* In-Person
You can use Camtasia Studio to create On-Screen videos that basically record what you are doing on your desktop. This type of video is ideal especially if you decide to create step by step lessons on a certain subject that involves the usage of a computer.
Similarly, you can use your web-cam or digital camera to create the In-Person video where you actually appear in the video to introduce yourself and promote your offer. I would recommend the In-Person video strategy because it adds a “Human Touch” to the visitor although both methods work equally well.
If you are not planning to invest in software to edit your videos, you can use the Windows Movie Maker which comes together with the Microsoft Office Package. Therefore, it is not necessary to invest in expensive software to get the video editing job done. This should save quite a lot of money on your part especially if you are starting your internet business on a tight budget.
The length of your video should be between 5 to 10 minutes if you are planning to upload it to Youtube.com. Either way, if you are planning to host the video on your website, the length of your video should not be too long. Otherwise, you may not have sufficient bandwidth on your hosting account to support it. You won’t want to risk losing your potential subscriber when he clicks on your squeeze page link only to see “ERROR!” You will be flushing your profits down the drain when this happens.
Component 3: Benefits of the Offer
You may wish to use bullets or tick points to summarize the benefits of joining your opt-in list. Consider yellow highlights on beneficial words to relate to your visitors’ needs. Finally, make sure you deliver what you promise to build your credibility especially if you are new to the internet marketing scene. If you don’t, not only will you be shooting blanks on your target board, you will also risk losing your reputation. You won’t want that to happen, do you?
Component 4: Opt-In Form
Design the Opt-In Form to be placed inside a Johnson Box: a yellow box with dotted red lines. The purpose of an opt-in form is to collect your visitors’ personal information such as name and email address. This gives you the permission to communicate and build lasting relationships with your subscribers that are vital for a sustainable business. Bear in mind that you should always deliver value to your subscribers because they are the ones who bring in the dough.
I will recommend Aweber auto-responder service which I personally use for its reliability and excellent customer service.
Component 5: Layout
Now you may say “Ok Edmund, but how do I arrange the components you have discussed earlier on my webpage?”
You should arrange the components in the following manner:
1. Headline at the top of the webpage
2. The video and opt-in form should be next to each other, just below the headline.
3. The “bulleted” or “ticked” benefits should be located below the video.
